Calabasas
Located north of Topanga State Park, Calabasas is a southwestern San Fernando Valley neighborhood with an incredibly trendy, yet tight-knit community that values health and wellness. While it was incorporated in 1971, Calabasas has a history dating back to the 19th century with the founding of the Leonis Adobe. One of Calabasas’ greatest landmarks is The Commons in Calabasas, a chic shopping district in downtown Calabasas. The Commons in Calabasas is home to several high-end shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
Along with its stylish downtown, some of Calabasas’ most iconic sites include:
- Leonis Adobe Museum – Built-in 1844, Leonis Adobe is one of the oldest surviving structures in the San Fernando Valley. Today it is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places and is a living museum that captures a significant piece of California’s ranching history.
- Malibu Hindu Temple - Owned by the Hindu Temple Society of Southern California, Malibu Hindu Temple is the largest Hindu temple on the west coast. This temple honors the Hindu god Venkateswara. This attraction is popular for visitors from all walks of life since it’s such a beautiful temple.
- Calabasas Creek Park - Owned and operated by the Leonis Adobe Museum, Calabasas Creek Park is a beautiful city park located in downtown Calabasas. Has many historic sites and beautiful gardens.
- Malibu Creek State Park - Established in 1974, the Malibu Creek State Park has three natural preserves within the state park: Kaslow Preserve, Liberty Canyon, and Udell Gorge. Malibu Creek State Park is a popular destination for picnics, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and bird watching.
- King Gillette Ranch - the former home of entrepreneur King C. Gillette, King Gillette Ranch is now part of Malibu Creek State Park. A popular destination for hiking, horseback riding, and nature photography.
